Best Egg McMuffin Copycat Recipe

While I do enjoy eating out occasionally, including fast food, I've found that you can typically make your own version of restaurant favorites at home (and they always taste better!) These Egg McMuffins are no exception!

Not only do they taste better than the ones from McDonald's, but they are also super simple to make and can be frozen for later! There's no need to go through the drive-thru when you can just pull one of these breakfast sandwiches out of the freezer and pop it into the microwave!

These are very similar to my breakfast sandwiches!

🥘 Egg McMuffin Ingredients

This simple breakfast only uses 4 ingredients! Of course, you can customize them as much as you like, so feel free to add anything else you may want (like bacon!)

  • Canadian Bacon - 4 slices of Canadian bacon. Use round slices so that they fit perfectly onto the English muffins.
  • English Muffins - 4 English muffins.
  • Eggs - 4 large eggs.
  • Cheese - 4 slices of American cheese.
  • Butter (optional) - 4 tablespoons of butter.

🔪 How To Make Egg McMuffins

With how simple these sandwiches are to make, you'll never be rushing through the drive-thru for a quick breakfast again! All you will need is a large frying pan, a toaster, a spatula, and some Mason jar lids or egg rings (only if you want the perfectly circular eggs).

This recipe is for 4 Egg McMuffin sandwiches, but you can make as much or as little as you need! I recommend making a bunch and then keeping them in the freezer for whenever you need them!

  1. Heat the Canadian bacon. Place a large frying pan over medium-high heat and cook4 slices of Canadian baconfor 1-2 minutes per side. Then, set it aside.
  2. Toast the bread. Meanwhile, while the Canadian bacon is cooking, split open each of the4 English muffinsand then toast them in the toaster(you can add 1 tablespoon of the4 tablespoons of butterper English Muffin if you like).
  3. Cook the eggs. Add4 large eggsto your frying pan, making sure that they don't touch. Gently break the yolk and cook the eggs for 2 minutes per side (*see notes on how to get a perfectly circular shape).
  4. Add cheese. When the eggs are almost done cooking, place each of the4 slices of American cheeseonto each egg and let them melt.
  5. Assemble. Place a piece of cooked Canadian bacon onto the bottom of the English muffin, followed by the egg and the top of the muffin.
  6. Serve. Serve your egg McMuffin immediately or wrap them in aluminum foil for a simple on-the-go breakfast.

These sandwiches are meant to be eaten as a quick, on-the-go breakfast! They include everything you need, so you don't have to prepare any side dishes. Of course, if you are sitting down for breakfast, then you may like some sweet air fryer pancakes, too! Enjoy!

💭 Tips & Notes

  • To make the eggs perfectly round, you can cook the eggs in an egg ring or use mason jar canning lids with the screw side facing up(spritzed with nonstick cooking spray).
  • If you do not have a toaster, you can highly butter both pieces of the English muffin and brown them in the frying pan, oven, or toaster oven - an air fryer will even do the trick to make a crispy barrier for your sandwich.
  • Add some crispy bacon to really take this breakfast to the next level!

🥡 Storing & Reheating

Store any leftover egg McMuffins by wrapping them in foil and placing them into an airtight container. Store in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.

Freezing Egg McMuffins

These are perfect for a make-ahead breakfast! Once wrapped individually in foil, place the McMuffins into an airtight bag or container and freeze them for up to a month.

Reheating Egg McMuffins

You can reheat your breakfast sandwiches (either frozen or thawed) in the microwave for 30-60 seconds. You may need an additional 30 seconds if they were frozen.

❓ FAQ

How Do I Cook Eggs In A Circular Shape For An Egg McMuffin?

This is actually super easy to do! You can use the lid of a Mason jar that has been lightly sprayed with nonstick cooking spray. Crack the egg into the center, break the yolk, and let it cook! You can also use something called an egg ring, which is a circular ring that is placed into your skillet.

What Else Can I Add To An Egg McMuffin?

You can customize this breakfast sandwich as much as you like! While the traditional Egg McMuffin consists of an English muffin, Canadian bacon, an egg, and American cheese, you can add other ingredients such as spinach, avocado, tomatoes, or different types of meat.

Can I Make A Healthier Version Of An Egg McMuffin?

You can make a healthier version by using whole-grain English muffins, lean protein like turkey bacon or turkey sausage, and lower-fat cheese. Feel free to omit any butter as well. Plus, you can also add vegetables for extra nutrients!
