Ramsey is a radio show host and hosted The Ramsey Show a radio program that was nationally syndicated from 2007 to 2010 and was the host of Fox Business. He is also an author and has authored some books, six books for children and five adult books among them being The Total Money Makeover. Additionally, Dave plays the role of a personal finance consultant.
Ramsy had accumulated investments of $4 million in 1986. However, in 1988 he filed for bankruptcy after the 1987 Competitive Equality Banking Act took effect. Afterward, he experienced financial difficulties and would only offer financial advice to fellow members of his church. He started a financial counseling service group called Lampo Group in 1988. By 1992, he had found financial peace and he therefore wrote and published a book called Financial Peace.
In 1992 he became The Money Game host on WWTN/Nashville where he alternated with two other hosts. He later took over the show naming it The Dave Ramsey Show, a talk show that gave call-in financial advice and was aired three hours daily. In 1994, he started a financial peace university where he gave a video-based personal finance course, that included nine lessons in total. The Lampo group changed its name to Ramsey Solutions in 2014. In 2019, a 47-acre campus was started in Ramsey Solutions company headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee.
Dave Ramsey Teachings
Ramsey teaches people to use what they earn wisely and avoid debt by using a method he calls debt snowball method. This method involves paying your smallest debt first and then moving on to the largest. He discourages the use of credit cards and even in his show he would show the only four cards in his wallet that is a concealed-carry permit, a driver’s license, a personal debit card, and a business debit card. He advises people to allocate money for everything, and only use what is available for the specific budget for example food money, school fees, and entertainment, among others.
Dave Ramsey Lawsuit
Ramsey was sued by some of his listeners for giving the timeshare team to advertise on his program. According to CBS News, the case was filed in April in the western district of Washington court and he faces a $150 million lawsuit. The company had promised to help the customers bring to an end the contracts they had with timeshare. Nevertheless, it was impossible, yet the customers had paid money between $4,000 and $72,000 for services that were not available. The lawsuit alleges that Ramsey did not consider laws that protect the customer before promoting the company.
