Scholarships can be used to help students cover the costs of attending college or career school. This form of student aid is always recommended over loans because it is free and does not need to be repaid.
While you can find scholarships for people with glasses, most eligibility requirements are focused on your level of vision rather than whether or not you actually wear glasses.
The scholarships below provide a starting point for students with glasses who are seeking free student aid.

Appily Easy College Money Scholarship

While not specifically targeting students with glasses, the Appily Easy College Money scholarship (formerly Cappex) is available to all students enrolled in high school or college or those who plan to enroll in the next 12 months. There is no essay or minimum GPA requirement to apply.

Scheigert Scholarship
- Value: $3,000

The Fred Scheigert Scholarship Program awards four students with low vision a $3,000 prize. Finalists will participate in a telephone interview with committee members to determine who the recipients will be.
The winners of the award are expected to attend the ACB National Convention in July. Expenses will be reimbursed based upon the CCLVI’s Board approved reimbursem*nt policy.

National Federation of the Blind’s Scholarship
- Value: $8,000
- Essay: Yes
- Deadline: March 31
The National Federation of the Blind’s (NFB) annual scholarship program awards 30 merit-based scholarships worth $8,000 to blind scholars in all 50 states, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico every year. The finalists are announced in the spring and are expected to attend the federation’s national convention in July to find out the winners.

- Must be 18 years of age by July 3, 2024.
- Must be pursuing a full-time, post-secondary degree program at a U.S. institution in the fall of the year of application (one scholarship may be given to a person who is employed full-time while attending school part-time).
- Must participate in person in the entire NFB National Convention and in all of its scheduled scholarship program activities (NFB assists finalists to attend).
Jim Halladay HumanWare/NFB STEM Scholarship

The Jim Halladay HumanWare/NFB Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) scholarship awards four winning candidates with a Brailliant BI40 braille display and $1,000 toward tuition. You apply my simply checking a checkmark on your standard NFB scholarship application. This gives you access to the Humanware/NFB scholarship, as well.
Selection for this scholarship is separate from the 30 NFB scholarships, and you’ll be contacted by Humanware if you win.

The American Foundation for the Blind and American Council of the Blind Scholarship

The American Foundation for the Blind and the American Council of the Blind (AFB) have partnered to offer scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students. The awarded funds can be used to help cover tuition, fees, room and board, and other additional costs associated with adaptive technology.
