Recently, my mother-in-law visited from Canada. The kids were so thrilled to have their grandmother here, and I couldn't let her go without getting her to share one of her favorite easy desserts - Sucre à la Crème.

Sucre à la Crème is a traditional French Canadian recipe similar to fudge though the texture is more grainy and it melts in your mouth. It is incredibly sweet and decadent and just a small tray will last you for quite some time as you can't eat a lot at once (unless you are my husband). Why this Sucre à la Crème recipe is awesome

  • Translated, it means sugar with cream. Hello? So much yum!
  • Kids can help make it
  • A little goes a long way because it is so sweet

Ingredients

To make this yummy Canadian fudge, you'll need white sugar, brown sugar, heavy cream, vanilla and butter. I dare you not to make something delicious with those ingredients.

How to make Sucre à la Crème

Mix 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of brown sugar and 1 cup of heavy cream in a microwave safe bowl.

My kids loved helping with this step.

So did Grandma.

My daughter works her muscles while stirring the mixture.

After the sugars and cream are combined, microwave for four minutes. Remove from microwave and stir, then microwave again for another four minutes.

Remove from the microwave and add 1 teaspoon of vanilla and 1 tablespoon of butter.

Line the bottom of an 8 x 8 casserole dish with parchment paper making sure to cover the sides as well.

Using a hand mixer or a stand mixer, mix at high speed until the mixture gets thicker and forms peaks - around 2-4 minutes.

Pour into the parchment covered casserole dish.

Spread evenly throughout the dish, cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

This is a very sweet treat, so you will want to cut it in small squares. Keep theSucre à la Crème refrigerated.

It was wonderful to watch a family tradition being passed from one generation to the next. Thank you to Grandma for this recipe!
