Making low carb simple

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat your waffle maker.

  2. Place all of your ingredients (save some of the butter to grease the waffle maker) into a mixing bowl and beat to combine.

  3. Lightly grease your waffle iron with butter and then evenly spoon the mixture over the bottom plate, spreading it out slightly to get an even result. Close the waffle iron and cook for approx 6 minutes, depending on your waffle maker.

  4. Gently lift the lid when you think they’re done. If they are cooked, they will release easily.

  5. Serve with your favourite toppings.

Chaffles are usually cooked on a little mini waffle maker (Dash is one brand). You can see a sample in the video. If you have a larger traditional waffle maker, you may prefer one of our waffle recipes instead.

Thanks for your great recipes. I have a question, in general, and in this meal as well, When you say a certain amount (x) for carbs and the default serving number is 4, does this mean that it's xg carbs per 4 servings or per 1 serving?

Coconut flour works, but you may need to add a Tablespoon or so of heavy cream or water as it soaks up a LOT of moisture.

None. There is no nutritional yeast in this or any other chaffle recipe. But if you wanted to add it for the B vitamins, no more than a teaspoon should suffice. Watch how it thickens, you may need to add some water.

Love this recipe all the way from little NZ!!!! A sneaky way to get more eggs into my toddler too! I dressed mine with a thin spread of cream cheese and a few slices of shaved ham. 5 star lunch well under 5g carbs in total. Thanks DD this is a winner and sooooo easy!!! It made 3 waffles in my large waffle iron.

These look an excellent substitute for a Yorkshire Pudding, will whip up egg whites separately and fold in the other ingredients.

I made this recipe - exactly as printed - tonight. Used my brand new Dart mini thingy. Recipe says it makes 4 - guess what I got? 9! Yes - 9. Looks like we have another hamburger tomorrow night - hubby was really pleased with having a hamburger with a bun for a change. Now I have to learn how to use a bunch (when I make them again) for more than hamburgers ! Any suggestions?

That's great! If you don't come up with another use, these would freeze well for the next time you have burgers. You can also try our pizza chaffle recipe, or top these like a pizza and bake or broil.

You may have luck dropping them into thin circles in a frying pan and then flipping once the bottom side is thoroughly cooked. If you'd prefer to swap out the meal entirely, you can do so! There is a step by step guide to the meal planner in our help center.

Can you save the extra batter?

It may work better to make the chaffles and then save them in the refrigerator until you're ready to eat them. Alternatively, you can use the drop down menu above the list of ingredients to make fewer servings in the first place.

Recipe is great! Normally almond flour would be in gms rather than tbsp. Not that I think it matters for this recipe, but for other DD recipes it might. I think measures with tbsp should specify which system is being used as 1 tbsp is 20 ml in Australia and 15 ml in the USA.

Would it be possible to get storage and freezer instructions on this recipe......in fact it would be a great addition to every recipe...e.g. Storage - 3 days in the refridgerator / 1 week in air tight tin / do not store eat immediately etc. Freezing - freeze separated by parchment paper, freeze in portions, keeps for 1 month / not suitable for freezing / freeze cooked meat but without sauce.

Thank you for your feedback. Most recipes follow standard recipe convention and food safety - they will be good in the refrigerator for 3 - 5 days or 2 - 3 months in a freezer. Mostly it's just sauces with a lot of dairy that don't freeze/thaw well.

I made it on a standard size waffle iron and 1 serving makes 1 perfect waffle on there. I honestly think in the video they use the smaller size waffle iron because they look cuter.

I decided to purchase the mini waffle maker ($10) and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. These waffles are so simple and so delicious! I added two strips of chopped pre-cooked bacon to the mix (I know I'm adding some fat and protein, but no carbs). One serving yields two mini waffles, which doesn't only feel satiating but it also looks like a larger portion. This has been my breakfast for three days in a row. Best breakfast ever!

For those of you who used egg whites instead of eggs...How much egg whites did you use? the usual 1/4 c. egg whites per egg equivalent? I can eat egg whites but not egg yolks due to food sensitivities so trying to substitute. Thanks. Also if anyone knows of a good keto sub for whole eggs in breakfast recipes let me know.

Hi, Sheryl! You may be able to use coconut flour instead, but the ratios will be different. However, you can also try simply omitting the flour altogether. When I make chaffles, I simply use eggs, cheese, and salt, and they turn out great!

Hi, Kim! This will vary based on the brands/ingredients that you use. You may want to try something like the USDA Food Database to look up your ingredients. https://fdc.nal.usda.gov/
