Chicken baby puree’ is one of the easiest baby food that you will prepare.
Considering that chickenis super good for babies as it contains all the protein, good fat, essential vitamins, iron and zinc that will help an healthy baby development, you will be preparing MANY chicken purees 😉
I have to admit that it ishard to get it wrong. The concept is so simple. Cook + add liquid + puree’. Still, I learned that it is possible to prepare a decent but bland and a bit chewy chicken puree’ ORa flavorful, creamy fun one 😉
The key point is not to overcook the chicken. I found that steaming it in an aluminum foil with an extra ingredient to add a bit of flavor (apples in today’s recipe) works very well.
The chicken is properly cooked but not hard and chewy and, thanks to the steaming process and the aluminum foil that keeps all the juices inside, the nutritional value is still very good.
I also noticed that adding one apple to the chicken really makes the difference in terms of taste. I used Pink Lady apples for their lightly tart and sweet flavor.
This recipe is appropriate for a baby starting from 7/8 months. That’s usually when it is recommended to start introducing meats in your baby’s diet.
With my kids I started with chicken, very delicate in taste and easy to digest. Turkey too, is a good starting choice for a first meat, and it is also high in protein and iron like chicken.
With Alex and Luca I liked to prepare a nice quantity of basic chicken puree and store it in the freezer divided in small portions.
I used to thaw the needed quantity (if you want more info about how to thaw baby food, click here) and serve it to them warm either simply like that – chicken puree’ – or mixed with other vegetables and baby cereals.
In order to store and freeze the chicken puree’ you can use a freezer tray like the blue one I’ve used in the video so thatyou will obtainsmall cubes of baby food or you can use small glass containers with a lid made in different sizes pending how much food your little one eats at every meal.
The baby food containers I’ve been using in my video are all from Greensprouts:

I’ve never combined apple with chicken before. I usually keep the chicken separate as a savory recipe for my kids. I’m also interested in the way you steamed the ingredients in foil. I’m going to try this. It looks like it keeps everything together, neat and locks in the nutrients so I like it. Thanks for sharing your tips.

Hi! The apple gives moist to the chicken. Also, not being super sweet, it’s a nice flavor combination. I use the foil (but you can also use some baking parchment paper) to keep the juices inside and use them later as thinning liquid for the baby puree. I’m glad you liked the recipe! ciao, b

Hi Megan! Roasting is another lovely cooking method. Bake everything to 400F for 15/20 min (check if the chicken is cooked, pending the size of the pieces it will take more or less time) and than blend everything in a food processor. Let me know if your little one likes it!! ciao, b
