Kids can be so creative. Sometimes as a mom I find the more simple the toy the more creative my kids can be with the toy. With a toy like Play Mags they become obsessed, in a positive way, and invent many different types of creations. Play Mags are colorful plastic shapes with magnets inside.They stick together because of the magnets around the edges. My boys have so much fun with Play Mags and I find them on my living room carpet almost daily. They are the go to toy they seek out everyday. They create so many different of inventions. I love to see them off their electronics and creating in unique ways.
My boys love their little pet guinea pigs named Butterscotch, aka Scotchy, and Twix (of course they named them after candy). My boys constantly make new creations for the little guys to go in. They have invented a guinea pig vending machine corral as pictured above. The veggie vending machine was in the corner of the corral so the pig could come over and munch the veggies out of the Play Mag vending machine. They put lettuce, peppers, parsnips, and cilantro in the vending machine because the pigs love those veggies. **I promise no guinea pigs were harmed in this play; we love our piggies!**
The kids created a double guinea pig corral with the Play Mags. The pigs were separated because they are males and they are territorial so they fight if in close contact. The guinea pigs stayed in the corral for just a short time but the boys had so much fun making it for them. They tore it down after ten minutes and made another creation.
When we had a hamster my boys would make him obstacle course rooms with a piece of vegetable or cereal at the end as as treat. They’ve made probably at least thirty different models of obstacle course rooms. Some had multiple tiny rooms, tunnels, mazes, or caves for the hamster to go in. They would create different challenging terrain with the Play Mags for the hamster to climb through and over. I can’t say for sure but the little guy seemed to love it. The little hamster was contained perfectly in his temporary play room. The boys did experiment with adding a roof to the room but they learned quickly to be careful as the roof could collapse. They started to do just a partial roof to prevent collapse.
My boys have made so many different amazing things with the Play Mags with and without involving the pets. Some examples include towers, a church with steeple, houses, boxes, platforms, a pedestal for guinea pigs, buildings, mini mazes for stuffed animals, and dance floors for little toy guys. The possibilities are endless.
The set we have came with a Play Mag on wheels to make cars (see pictured below). Since the guinea pig was out while they were playing, (which he almost always is), they made him a guinea pig battle shelter to protect him while they played cars on the floor.
As a mom, I love this toy. I can’t rave enough about it. The kids get off their screens and create which is what I love to see. My boys got it for Christmas and they haven’t stopped playing with it since. The Play Mags are always spread across my living room carpet which can be a pain when I need to vacuum. But I know the day is coming when my boys will be teens and they won’t play with toys anymore. Therefore I’ve decided I’m living in the moment because kids grow up too fast. I’m going to enjoy my toy splattered living room while my boys still want to play with toys. I’m gonna love it, colorful mess and all.
